Margaret Jane Suderman was born to C. P. and Faye Evans on October 16, 1923 in Yoakum, Texas. She passed away from complications of pneumonia at her residence, The Hampton at Meadows Place, Meadows Place, Texas on May 18, 2013 at the age of 89.
Jane is survived by daughter, Kathryn Long; son, Don Suderman and wife Becky; grandchildren: Julie Long Ferro and husband Steven, Jason Long, Melissa Suderman, Lauren Suderman; great-granddaughter, Layne Bulow; godson, Wayne Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph D. (“Sudie”) Suderman, Jr.; sisters, Katherine Wooten, Christine McNeill, Hazel Brown; and brother, Jack Evans.
The Evans family moved to Galveston when Jane was two years old. She attended St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from Dominican High School in Galveston, Texas. On January 7, 1944 Jane and Sudie were married at Trinity Episcopal Church. They spent the next year traveling across the United States following Sudie’s assignments with the U. S. Navy before returning to settle in Galveston. Jane was active in the Treasure Ball Association for many years. She was a founding member of The Women’s Propeller Club Port of Galveston, also serving as President. From 1986 to 1988 she proudly served as National President of The Women’s Propeller Club of the United States. Jane enjoyed entertaining family and friends, shopping, dining out, and playing cards. An avid cat lover, her favorite hobby was caring for her much loved pets. Following Hurricane Ike in 2008, Jane relocated to Meadows Place, Texas.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, Galveston, Texas. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Aaron Sanders. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Long, Joe Maffei, Craig Tremonte, Bob Block, Leo Mencacci, and Matt Wooten. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Brown, Eddie Barr, Jack Collier, Peter Cornwell, and Stefan Stamoulis.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Galveston Island Humane Society, 6814 Broadway, Galveston, TX 77554.
