Obituary

Margurite Perussina Parsley passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Bayou Pines Care Center. She was born to George and Julia Perussina on March 16, 1930 in Galveston, Texas.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John W. Parsley. As per Margie’s request, she will be cremated and her ashes will be placed with her loving husband in the Gulf of Mexico with family in attendance. There will be no further services. Preceding Margie in death were her sister, Mary Ann Perussina and nephew, Paul Krenek. She asked that memorials be made to your favorite charity.

Margie is survived by her sister, Rose Perussina Zapp and husband, Lee Otis Zapp, Jr.; sister-in-law and dearest friend, Katye Parsley; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Parsley; nieces, Heather Anderson and husband, Doug; Mary Elizabeth Blount and husband, Ronnie; Patricia Keleman and husband, Ronnie; and Renee Krenek; nephews, Lee George Zapp and wife, Linda; John J. Parsley and wife, Maggie; Walter G. Parsley; Kevin Zapp; and Eric Zapp and wife, Heather; as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Margie was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, as well as The University of Texas at Austin, where she received a BS in Physical Education. She taught Physical Education at Ball High School in the 1950’s. Margie and John’s life and careers landed them in numerous locations throughout the United States. In the late 1970’s, the two BOI’s had to get the sand back between their toes and moved home to be with their family and friends. She met with “The Buddies” (Ursuline grads monthly lunch group) for the last 30+ years.

The family wishes to thank Margie’s friend and caregiver, Emelda Rivera, as well as her Physician, Nancy Hughes, for going above and beyond the norm, time after time, to keep her at home as long as possible. Many thanks to the loving staff and administrators at Bayou Pines Care Center. They made the final phase of Margie’s life as comfortable as humanly possible. Margie and John were able to stay at home with confidence much longer thanks to Liz Murphy, Bill Hyneck, Brett Miller, Liz Johnson, Freddie Harris and numerous other neighbors and friends.

Johnny I'm so sorry to hear that your mother passed away. I know the feeling of losing a parent. My fathers death was very hard. Since we have moved to the mainland I am out of touch. If you ever need anything please call me. My prayers are with you and your family. Love ya, Steph
