Mary Ellen Montoya, 70, of Galveston, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at her residence. She was born May 11, 1942, in Galveston, and graduated from Dominican High School, where she was a member of the Pirateer drill team. Mary Ellen loved music and dancing (and didn’t need a partner), treasured her bus trips to Coushatta, and enjoyed her soap operas in both English and Spanish. She was also a faithful “Pick 3” lotto ticket purchaser.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Montoya; parents, Johnny and Rita Rodriguez; and sister, Jessie R. Escobar.
She is survived by her sisters, Lilly Garcia and husband, Eugene; Rita Ann Rodriguez; and Kathy Tavarez and husband, Lou; brothers, PJ Rodriguez, Jr. and wife, Cathy; and Bobby Rodriguez and wife, Lucy; brother-in-law, Arnold Escobar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 20th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
