Obituary

Mary Esther Sandoval, 92, formerly of Galveston, died November 9, 2011 at Colonial Gardens in San Antonio, Texas. Mary was born September 1, 1919 in Aguas Calientes, Mexico to Josephat Medina and Mercedes Montoya Medina but moved to Texas when she was a young girl. She had five siblings and numerous childhood friends. She married Ramon Sandoval on February 14, 1942. In September of 1955 she went to work for American National Insurance and retired on April 30, 1982 after 27 years of service. Mary enjoyed gardening, bowling, dancing, and raising plants. Most of all she enjoyed being with family and friends and having large gatherings with them.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Josephat and Mercedes Medina; husband, Ramon Sandoval; brothers, Joe Medina and Ambrose Medina; and sister, Lola Dominguez.

She is survived by her son, Ramon Sandoval, Jr., and wife, Cheryl, of Uvalde, TX; daughter, Mary Esther Boyle, and husband, Jim, of San Antonio, TX; sister, Mary Ophelia Sievert, of Austin, TX. and brother, David Medina, and wife, Patsy, of Santa Barbara, CA.; grandchildren, Ramon Sandoval, III; Joseph Sandoval, and Katherine Sandoval; Erin Dempsey; and Brett Boyle; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jennie Lippold and Maria Fernandez and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 13, 2011, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.

A rosary will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011, at 10:00 am at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Monday, November 14, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.

Pallbearers are Ramon Sandoval, III, Joseph Sandoval, Gene Lippold, Richard Dominguez, Joe Medina and Bill Sievert. Honorary pallbearer is David Medina, Jr.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Cindy Alcala, of Galveston, and Pat and Barbara Davis of San Antonio, TX for the assistance they provided in getting things done.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2242 W Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030-2008.
