Mary Katherine Bean Ermis, 75, of Galveston, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. She was born June 23, 1938, in Galveston and won Galveston’s Baby Beauty Queen contest in 1939. Mary was a majorette for Stephen F. Austin Middle School and attended Ball High School, where she was a colonel of the Tornettes. She graduated with the Ball High Class of 1956 and married Marvin M. Ermis later that year. Mary worked for many years as a court clerk in the District Clerk’s office. She also briefly worked at the Galveston County Sherriff’s Office and part-time during her retirement years at Home Cut Donuts and the New York Dress Outlet. Mary enjoyed ceramics and making porcelain dolls, winning many awards for her creations. She was also an avid bowler who belonged to numerous leagues. Mary also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Reno to compete in slot machine tournaments.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Megale and J.D. Bean, Sr.; husband, Marvin Ermis; and son, Marty Ermis.
She is survived by her daughter, Cherie Farmer and husband, Donald; sister, Marge Medlock and husband, Cleburne; brother, J.D. Bean, Jr. and wife, Jane; grandchildren: Tripp Farmer and wife, Reagan, Chase Farmer, Ally Ermis, Whitney Ermis, and Gage Ermis; nephew, J.D. Bean, III; and nieces, Jeannette Vasquez, Audra Medlock, and Clebrette Lubojasky.
Mary’s family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 am, Monday, June 23rd, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, led by Deacon Sam Dell’Olio, with burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.
Pallbearers will be Donald Farmer, Jr., Tripp Farmer, Chase Farmer, J.D. Bean, Jr., J.D. Bean, III, and Randy Mlcak.
