Muriel Brundrett Thiem entered life triumphant into the arms of our Lord on April 27, 2017, at the age of 100.
Muriel was born November 26, 1916 to loving parents, John and Margaret Brundrett in Port Aransas, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Galveston. Beginning with Muriel, three generations of her family attended St. John’s Lutheran School. She graduated from Ball High School in 1933. Muriel was employed at Galveston College as Faculty Secretary in 1971, retiring in 1984.
Throughout the years, Muriel and her husband, Ted, were active members of St John’s Lutheran Church, instilling in their children a firm faith in our Lord. Muriel regularly attended Bible Studies, was a Charter Member (in 1942) of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, a Member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, where she served several times as president and on many other committees. She was also a Sunday School Teacher.
Muriel married her beloved husband, Theodore R. Thiem on October 21, 1934; he preceded her in death in 1970. Muriel is also preceded in death by her parents; son, John T. Thiem; son-in-law, Bobbie D. Dillard; two great grandsons, Kyle Milliman and Chad Ryman; and sister, Elzivir Hokanson.
Muriel dearly loved and was loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her kindness to all will be remembered by those whose lives she touched. She will be fondly remembered by her devoted and loving family and friends.
Cherishing her memories are her children: Joan Dillard of Alvin, her children Joanie Corea, Julie Hughes, Jeannie and David Gilbreath, Jill Jorden, Bobbie Dillard, Jr; Daughter-in-law Sandra Thiem of Alvin, their children John and Janice Thiem, Shanna Thiem, Matthew and Jill Thiem; Judy Whelton and husband Bob of Dickinson, their children Michael Agorastos, Stephanie and Craig Dhonau, Susan Milliman, Amy and Joe Skehan, Rob and Darlene Whelton, Traci and John King, Cindy and Jeff Ryman; Dr. Jerry Thiem and wife Laleen of League City, their children Suzanne Thiem, Laura and Drew Thurman, Denise and Tom Allison, Debra and John Parant, Donald Schaper; Jed Thiem and wife Irma of Windsor, MO, their children Philip Thiem, Mandy and Nick Root; 38 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.
Muriel’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, May 4, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1121 39th Street, in Galveston. Burial will follow at Oleander Cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers will be Muriel’s grandsons: Bobbie Dillard, Jr, John T. Thiem Jr, Matthew Thiem, Michael Agorastos, Drew Thurman, and Philip Thiem.
