Octavia Ella (Helen) Carlson, 96, of Galveston, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Gulf Health Care Center. She was born November 11, 1914, to George A. and Elizabeth (Jacobs) Caldara in Houston, Texas, one of 11 children. Helen married Richard K. Carlson on November 12, 1939, in Galveston, and worked for many years as a seamstress out of her home. She made and performed alterations on clothing for many ladies and made jackets for the Galveston Elks Lodge.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; brothers, John, George, and Willie; and sisters, Catherine, Norma, Claudia, Nora, Myrtle, and Bobbie.
She is survived by her sons, Richard K. Carlson, Jr. and John A. Carlson; sister, Gladys Uriarte; grandchildren: Richard K. (Kipp) Carlson, III; Edward John Carlson; Michael Letham Carlson; Christine Carlson; and Karen Carlson; and 6 great grandchildren: Samuel, Patrick, Joshua, Phillip, Anna, and Jeremy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, January 6th, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
