Cora Rafter left a message on September 22, 2021:
Dear Sarah, Cynda, Stephanie, Patty, Kathleen, Paula, Eddie, Vernon, Jennifer, Ryan, Olivia, Kay and the Poynor family, It was with great shock and sadness that we learned of the death of Philip. It is so unbelievably sad he was sick for such a short period of time and his life ended so unexpectedly. I have lovely memories of my all-American cousin arriving in Abbeyleix. He brought the glamour of Texas and the United States to our small Irish town, Abbeyleix. An exotic world of swimming, surfing, skateboarding, high school and hard rock. To this day the phrase, “y’all coming down to shoot some pool”, brings the Irish cousins right back to that summer of 1982. Philip was so tall and handsome, he could easily have passed for 18. Although he was three months younger than me, he seemed so much older and sophisticated. I remember feeling out of my depth, pretending to be nonchalant playing pool for the first time in a pub in Abbeyleix on a midweek afternoon with Philip, while secretly terrified of the consequences, if I was spotted. He was the first real live skateboarder most of us had ever met and he was really patient in trying to encourage us to do our 180s and 360s. I always expected to be patronised for our country, rural ways, but he was enthusiastic and genuinely interested in all of his cousins. I wasn’t quite sure what he would make of the rosary in Thornberry, which we said together every evening. He was offered a free pass for visitors, but when the time came, he got down on his knees with the family and joined in the nightly prayers. Most of all, I remember Philip as great fun, who was edgier and more daring than anyone I had met before. I would have loved the opportunity to meet him again. May Philip rest in peace. My deepest condolences to all of you and thinking and praying for you all in this these difficult times ahead. Love Cora

I still believe you're gone! I already miss you. I know you're resting in heaven, no more hussling those loads, no more sadness over this country, just pure joy. That's the only thing making me smile in all of this. You'll never be forgotten my truck driving friend 😥

Deepest Sympathy to Aunt Sarah, Philip's partner Cynda , my cousins Stephanie, Patrica and Eddie, Kathleen, Paula and Vernon, Ryan, Jennifer and Olivia. Philip's aunts Mary Catherine, Kathleen and Helen. His uncles Fr Paddy Michael and Martin. I remember with great fondness a young Philip Everling from 1982. A fine tall athletic young man and a competent skateboarder. A humorous witty bright young man who could tell a good yarn. He gave me a beautiful little lock knife the night before his return to the Us all of 39 ummers ago. I did not want to take it from him . He said it was ok he probably would not be allowed to board the plane with it. Am I glad I minded that knife all those years. I will cherish it even more now. So long Phil till we all meet again lm sure your Dad and Grandparents Aunts and Uncles and your little niece have given you a warm welcome in to your heavenly
