Raymond Clarke Mensing , III, passed away suddenly on December 21, 2010. He was born March 12, 1975, in Valdosta, Georgia. He was a former acolyte at both St. Barnabas and Christ Episcopal Church, where he was a member of the Handbell Choir. A computer enthusiast, Raymond graduated with honors from the Valwood School in 1993.
In December 1996, Raymond graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Patristic Greek. He was a member of the Classics Honor Society, Eta Sigma Phi; Golden Key; and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He later did graduate work at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., where he was employed by some historic hotels in Guests Services.
Predeceased by grandparents, Raymond Clarke and Cleo Parker Mensing of Galveston, Texas, and Ruby W. Powers of Jesup , Georgia. Survivors include his parents, Dr. Raymond C. Mensing, Jr. and Jan Powers Mensing of Valdosta; one sister, Stephanie Jan Mensing of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his grandfather, Lennon Edward Powers of Jesup; an aunt, Frances P. Hudson of Eastanollee, Georgia; and several cousins.
Visitation will be held at Malloy & Son Funeral Home on Friday, December 31, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., immediately followed by graveside services at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. The Reverend David Dearman will officiate.
