Ray Stockhoff, 81, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2017 at his home in Galveston, TX, surrounded by his adoring family.
Ray was born on July 19, 1936 in Plainfield, NJ. In 1958, he graduated from The United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. While at USMMA, Ray played on both the baseball and soccer teams and was the sports editor for the campus newspaper.
The majority of his professional career was spent working as a mechanical engineer in Houston, TX. This is where he met the love of his life, Sandra, whom he was married to for 43 years. They retired to Galveston in 1998.
Ray shared Christ’s love by serving others selflessly through his many years of work at Saint Vincent de Paul. He had a passion for helping the less fortunate. He was a leader within the Catholic Church and was elected to the position of Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Ray was an avid sports fan and enjoyed travel, golf, walks on the beach with his dog, and spending time with loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Stockhoff; his sister, Joan Moore; and his father, John Henry Stockhoff. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his stepmother and closest friend, Patricia Stockhoff; his sister, Linda Baker (Ned); his 5 children: Duane Mitchell, William Stockhoff, Mark Stockhoff, Christian Stockhoff (Meriah), and Kate Flack (Scott); his 7 beloved grandchildren; and his nephew, Scott Hyer (Tricia).
