Richard Warren Brown, 81, of Galveston, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013, at The Meridian. A 3rd generation BOI, Richard was born October 3, 1932, to Charles August and Bessie Katherine (Miller) Brown. He served in the US Army and the Coast Guard Reserves and retired from UTMB after 41 years of service. Richard’s primary duties were that of an x-ray technician, however he served in numerous other capacities, such as operating the heart-lung machine and co-authoring numerous published research articles with the departments of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Interventional Radiology, and Anesthesiology. Richard was a member of Holy Family Parish, Galveston Knights of Columbus #787, and the Serra Club. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing at his fishing camp and was known for his sparkling sense of humor. Children and animals had a special love for Richard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Thomas Brown.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Glenda Franklin Brown; daughter, Debra Flynn and husband, George; son, Richard Kevin Brown; granddaughters, Katie Zeka and husband, Jason; and Meagan Baker and husband, David; great granddaughter, Sophia Zeka; sister, Olivia Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Monday, December 16th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will begin at 6:00 pm, led by Deacon Sam Dell’Olio.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 17th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Father Paul Chovanec officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Chris Otte, Scott Livanec, Jesus Dueri, Rod Hicks, Robert Green, and Dwayne Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Crow, Bill Fullen, Liborio Ruiz, Gil Livanec, Bill Otte, and Gary Praker.
