Robert “Bobby” Holmes was born 5-4-1935 in Galveston, the middle child of John Scott and Adele Parsons Holmes.  Jack was his older brother and Mary Anne, his younger sister.

As a child, Bobby loved his pets who would follow him and wait patiently while he performed altar boy duties at Sacred Heart.  He graduated Kirwin High School in 1953, going on to attend St. Edward’s where he enjoyed football and tennis.  In 1959 he married Virginia Kopecky.  He began his career as Hospital Administrator at Methodist and St. Luke’s before spending many years at Diagnostic Center Hospital in Houston and president of HCA.

Bob and Virginia raised their family in Houston and were members of St. Frances de Sales.   A gifted speaker, he shared jokes, stories, and stretched truths. Bob loved people, pets, horse shoes, tennis, floundering, his garden, music, and was a talented dancer.

Due to illness Robert passed on March 4, 2014.   A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Galveston.  Services will be handled by Malloy & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the electronic guest book and share your favorite memory at

Robert is survived by Virginia; his children, Debra, William, Robert, and Marie; grandchildren Christina Marie, Jennifer Lynn, and Monica Adele; great grandsons Elex and Gabriel, and his sister Mary Anne.

My prayerful sympathy to Virginia and the family on the death of one of my favorite students at St. Edward's U. I saw great potential in Bobby and worked with him in planning his future by telling him of a new program at Methodist Hospital in hospital administration. That was the beginning of a great and fruitful career. May God reward Bobby now for a life well lived. My prayers are with you all.

Debbie, Billy, Robbie, Marie & Virginia, Please accept our sincere condolences in your loss of Robert. His love of family and his devotion to his Savior are reasons to take strength, knowing that he is in a better place, united with Johnny and Adele, and no longer in pain. May he rest in the Peace of Christ forever.

Debby, Billy, Rob & Marie, I am saddened at the news of Bob's passing. I remember him as a fun loving guy, and a man who was very proud of his family. He will be missed at the family reunions, but now we have another guardian angel to look after us. My love and prayers are with you all.
