Robert “Bobby” Holmes was born 5-4-1935 in Galveston, the middle child of John Scott and Adele Parsons Holmes. Jack was his older brother and Mary Anne, his younger sister.
As a child, Bobby loved his pets who would follow him and wait patiently while he performed altar boy duties at Sacred Heart. He graduated Kirwin High School in 1953, going on to attend St. Edward’s where he enjoyed football and tennis. In 1959 he married Virginia Kopecky. He began his career as Hospital Administrator at Methodist and St. Luke’s before spending many years at Diagnostic Center Hospital in Houston and president of HCA.
Bob and Virginia raised their family in Houston and were members of St. Frances de Sales. A gifted speaker, he shared jokes, stories, and stretched truths. Bob loved people, pets, horse shoes, tennis, floundering, his garden, music, and was a talented dancer.
Due to illness Robert passed on March 4, 2014. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Galveston. Robert is survived by Virginia; his children, Debra, William, Robert, and Marie; grandchildren Christina Marie, Jennifer Lynn, and Monica Adele; great grandsons Elex and Gabriel, and his sister Mary Anne.
