Rosa Lea (Blondie) Carmichael, 87, of La Marque, passed October 23, 2016. Rosa Lea was born in Slagle, Louisiana and spent her childhood in Hitchcock and Galveston, Texas. Rosa Lea loved to travel and believed strongly in education. She had a Mathematics degree from the University of Houston. Rosa Lea dedicated much of her life to her church, Trinity Lutheran, and her accounting career. She retired from Union Carbide after 30 years but continued to work as an accountant for many years thereafter. While able, she was active in her church, the Railroad Women’s Association and Union Carbide Retirees Association.
Rosa Lea is preceded in passing by her parents, Rosa Mellina and Lee Carmichael; a brother, Alexander Rodriquez Jr.; and her sister-in-law, Loretta Carmichael.
She is survived by her brother, Freddie Carmichael; a niece, Joan Jones (Brian); nephews Fred Carmichael (Bonnie), Eddie Carmichael, Alexander Rodriquez III (Petra) and Randy Rodriquez (Katherine); two great-nephews; six great-nieces; as well as many friends who loved her.
Rosa Lea’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 31st and Broadway, in Galveston.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 am, Thursday October 27, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2024 12th Avenue in La Marque. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be Fred Carmichael, Eddie Carmichael, Mathew Carmichael, Alex Rodriquez, Randy Rodriquez and Brian Gunzelman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
