Thomas L. Vollert (Tommy), age 82, of Galveston passed away peacefully Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his home in Galveston.
Tommy was born February 14, 1931 in Galveston, Texas, to William and Beatrice Vollert. He was retired from UTMB. Tommy was an avid cyclist and enjoyed hanging out at the Mod coffee house with friends. If you wanted to know about Galveston history he would give you a bike tour and tell you everything he knew.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 39 years, Alma; his brothers: Bill, Roy (Skeets), and Vincent (Binky); and sister, Mae Pratorius Bell.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Vollert and partner Danetta Naegele; brother, Frank (Skippy) and May Vollert; stepdaughter, Ginger Cridland; nieces: Elyshia and Max Roth, Grace Ann and Bill Perez, Marianne and John McAuley, Virginia (DeeDee) and Michael Stockwell; nephews: Matt and Debbie Vollert, Walter and Marilyn Pratorius; grandchildren: Jay Rizzo, Steve Hendry, Corey and Clif Cridland; great grandchildren: Josh, Christian, Hunter and Savannah Cridland.
Tommy’s family will receive visitors on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, with a rosary at beginning at 7:00 pm, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston, Texas.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 11:00 am at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers are Jay Rizzo, Corey Cridland, Cruz Cortez, Matt Vollert, Max Roth and Ron Bryan.
Honorary pallbearers are Earl Barbin, Robert Jones, Donald Ray McChristian, Danetta Naegele, and Mike Fuller.
Tommy’s family wishes to extend special thanks to his caregiver, Cheronda Jackson and Dr. Michael and Maggie Fuller for always being there.
