On Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 12:55 A.M. surrounded by her loving family, Valerie was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Stephen Dougle “Winkie” Mancuso Sr., for all eternity. Valerie would say as she stands next to her beloved in heaven, “We have come a long way baby.”

Born December 24, 1928 on Galveston Island, Valerie lived an interesting and enjoyable life. The Galveston Island beach sand was never shaken from Valerie’s toes. Valerie was a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Family Catholic Church at Sacred Heart; a Diamond Member, Float Captain, and Barn Bash Team Leader for the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius; and an active brother of the Galveston BPOE Lodge #126.

Valerie’s passions in life were her husband, children, grand and great grand children, family, friends, and her love of country and community. Valerie honored her country by displaying the American Flag everyday. She was an activist for injustice and vocalized her political views openly to anyone listening. She enjoyed selling shrimp to friends and family alike caught by her beloved “Winkie” on the “Winkie Dink”, singing ditties (short songs), one-liner’s, gambling, gathering nights at the Lodge, and playing Gin with friends.

Valerie is preceded in death by husband Stephen D. Mancuso Sr., son Stephen D. Mancuso Jr. “Bubba”; her parents William Robert Lidstone Sr., Cecile Ursula Lidstone; siblings William Robert Lidstone Jr., Doris Marie Franks, Earl Dean Lidstone, and Charles Francis Lidstone Sr.; Brothers-in-law Sydney A. Franks, Jack “Giacomo” Mancuso Sr., Salvador “Sam” Mancuso Sr.; Sisters in law Geneva Lidstone, Angelina Lidstone, Margaret Lidstone, Rosalie Palombo; and wonderful companion James “Jim” Graham. They are gone, but not forgotten.

Forever holding Valerie in their hearts are her children: Linda Mancuso Forman, Carolyn Mancuso O’Hara, Cathy Lynn Mancuso and companion Tracey Towers, Richard Dan Mancuso, and Daughter-in-Law Claudia Mancuso. Grandchildren: Trey Presley, Stephen Anthony Mancuso, Katherine “Katy” O’Hara, and Richard Dan Mancuso Jr., Great-Great Grandchildren: Ellie Nicole Presley, Rylee Michele Presley, Dylan Dakota Fuentis, Kailyn Nicole Mancuso.
