Verona (Verne) Townley Gordon passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was 89.

Verne was born June 12, 1927 on a dairy farm in Crivitz, Wisconsin. In 1947, Verne married the love of her life, Clifford G. Townley, and upon his completion of Engineering School, they moved to Galveston, Texas where Cliff started an air conditioning and heating business which he owned and operated for thirty years. Verne was a beauty operator and ran her own beauty shop for thirteen years. She and Cliff adopted two children; soon after, Verne gave up her business to be a full-time mother. Later in life, Verne was the bookkeeper for the family business. In 1980, Cliff, whom she was married to for thirty- three years, passed away. Two years later in 1982, Verne married Justin A. Gordon, to whom she was married until his passing in 2007.

When Verne was younger she loved to play golf, and bridge was a great joy to her. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years. Verne loved to plant things, and she loved flowers; especially pink ones. She was quite the “social butterfly,” and never knew a stranger. Family and friends were Verne’s passion and delight.

She is survived by a son, Steven Townley of Galveston, TX; a daughter, Debra Townley of Rosharon, TX; a grandson, Scott Townley of Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Stephanie Sanders of Dale, TX; and Dana Townley of San Antonio, TX; several step (children, grandchildren and great grandchildren); a brother, Edward Kaucic of Mukwonago, WI, loving in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Verne’s family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 am, Monday, March 20, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A rosary will begin at 11:00 am with funeral mass immediately following the rosary. Burial will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Sorry to see the passing of Aunt Verne. I have many fond memories from the farm in Crivitz in the 50's, to our visit to their home in Galveston in the 70's, to her "pop up" visits to our home in Hawaii in the 80's. A wonderful lady who we will always remember. Doug & Janel McGinley

Aunt Verne. You were indeed a social butterfly. There was not one person you didn't find the time to talk to. You always had such amazing stories to tell. You wore a smile on your face no matter what troubles you carried on your shoulders. The world will certainly miss you and heaven is belated with another angel from our family. Rest in Prace surrounded by your brothers and sisters who have gone before you. We will miss you.

Deb, just saw this in the paper. I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom always took good care of me. When I first started living on my own she would come by "Bayou Shore Apts" and bring me care packages. She took me to find that apartment. I will always have the best of memories with her.Remember the night she was outside waiting for you, Cathy, and I to get home. I think it was around 3AM....we were just a little late. My heart aches for you and your family. You all are in my thoughts and prayers<3 LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY~Kathi
