Verona (Verne) Townley Gordon passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was 89.
Verne was born June 12, 1927 on a dairy farm in Crivitz, Wisconsin. In 1947, Verne married the love of her life, Clifford G. Townley, and upon his completion of Engineering School, they moved to Galveston, Texas where Cliff started an air conditioning and heating business which he owned and operated for thirty years. Verne was a beauty operator and ran her own beauty shop for thirteen years. She and Cliff adopted two children; soon after, Verne gave up her business to be a full-time mother. Later in life, Verne was the bookkeeper for the family business. In 1980, Cliff, whom she was married to for thirty- three years, passed away. Two years later in 1982, Verne married Justin A. Gordon, to whom she was married until his passing in 2007.
When Verne was younger she loved to play golf, and bridge was a great joy to her. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years. Verne loved to plant things, and she loved flowers; especially pink ones. She was quite the “social butterfly,” and never knew a stranger. Family and friends were Verne’s passion and delight.
She is survived by a son, Steven Townley of Galveston, TX; a daughter, Debra Townley of Rosharon, TX; a grandson, Scott Townley of Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Stephanie Sanders of Dale, TX; and Dana Townley of San Antonio, TX; several step (children, grandchildren and great grandchildren); a brother, Edward Kaucic of Mukwonago, WI, loving in-laws and nieces and nephews.
