Virginia M. Ewy went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Virginia was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic church. She had been a dedicated volunteer for her Church and devoted her time to the numerous missions associated with her faith. Virginia was a member of St. Peterâ€™s Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She also worked as a substitute teacher for Galveston public and parochial schools, for American Personnel and for Dr. Ira J. Young for many years. â€śGinâ€ť was an avid gardener, bowler, and bingo player.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Edward â€śSonnyâ€ť J. Ewy and their son, Edward J. Ewy, Jr.
Virginia is survived by two daughters, Diane Riley and husband, Calvin and Denise Rojas and husband, Ray, all of Santa Fe; seven grandchildren: Steven Ewy, Danette Tibble and husband, Brian; Tommy Garland and wife, Renee; Lori Lamb and husband, Bryan; Scott Riley and wife, Patty; Kellye Flowers and husband, Jason; and Ashley Rojas; nine great grandchildren: Morgan and Edward Ewy; Maggie, Brian, and Emma Tibble; Makenzie and Allie Garland; and Haley and Andrew Lamb; sister, Rosalie Ring; brothers, Anthony Higgins and wife, Joyce, and Victor Higgins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia was devoted to her family and faith and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ginâ€™s family will receive visitors after 5:00 pm, Friday, January 22nd, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston. A rosary will be held at 6:30 pm, led by Deacon Sam Dellâ€™Olio.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Saturday, January 23rd, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Bok, OFM, as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ray Rojas, Calvin Riley, Jr., Scott Riley, Bryan Lamb, Jason Flowers, and Charles Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Garland, Anthony Higgins, and Victor Higgins.
Ginâ€™s family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Gracious Living Personal Care Home of Dickinson for their compassion and loving care of Gin during her time of need.
