Virginia Shrode, 96, of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston. She was born September 5, 1920, in Racine, Wisconsin and was a resident of Galveston since 1971. Virginia was a registered nurse, and after her retirement, she managed the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry and Thrift Shop for 20 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
Virginia is survived by her three daughters: Anne Johnson and husband, Thomas; Paula Laug and husband, James; and Linda Horvath and husband, Victor; grandchildren: Danny Johnson and wife, Aida; Jill Johnson; Holly Lonzo and husband, Justin; Brian Charles and wife, Deanna; Bruce Charles and wife Liz; Rhonda Szalacinski and husband, David; Jamie Riley and husband, Quentin; Michael Horvath and wife, Elyssa; Randy Horvath and wife, Jessica; Bonnie Baldwin and husband, James; and Gina Sawyer and husband, Leland; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and very special friends, Bette Cowan and Francis Charles.
Virginia’s family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 10, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A memorial mass will begin at 2:00 pm.
