Zoanne “Mickey” Dundee, 87, passed away March 20, 2014 after a brief illness. Mickey was born on Long Island, NY in Amityville to parents Don and Deloris Grove. Mickey was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Charles Dundee; her parents; and brothers, Jackie Grove, George “Jigsy” Grove, Don Grove, Jr. and Joe Grove. She is survived by son, Larry Dundee and wife Patty; son, Joe Dundee and Lisa; son, Danny Dundee and wife Robin; son, Mick Dundee and wife Cheri’; brother, Bob Grove and wife Mary Ellen; sister, Zoe Callaway and husband “Cal”; sister-in law, Jackie Grove; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that she loved to spend time with.
The Groves were passionate ballplayers. At 16 years old Mickey played 3rd Base for the 1943 Tennessee State Champion softball team, the Peerless Woolenettes. She moved to Galveston in 1944 where she met her husband Charlie while working at Union Carbide. She later spent many years working in the admitting office at St Mary’s Hospital.
Mickey was a devoted mother not just to her own sons, but also to their friends, cousins and other family members. She will be remembered as someone who saw the best in everyone, never forgot a birthday, and always put everyone else’s needs before her own.
Mickey’s family will receive visitors on Monday, March 24th at 1:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Galveston. Funeral mass will begin at 2:00 pm at the church following by burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mickey’s beloved grandchildren: Anthony Dundee, Lauren Dundee, Ryan Dundee, Anissa Dundee, Emily Dundee, Steven Dundee, Abby Dundee and Grace Dundee.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at John Sealy – Floor 7A, Ashton Place and Hallmark Hospice who were so kind and caring during Mickey’s illness.
